Food:

No gambling in the library聽– Wondering who will be gambling in a library? It seems like a far-fetched idea. But still, there is a law that bars people from gambling in a library.

Carrying planks of wood along a pavement is illegal聽– This is a good example of how old laws become useless in the modern world. As per the rule, carrying wood planks along a pavement is illegal. One can do so only when the wooden planks are being unloaded from a truck and being carried inside a building.

Cannot transport rabid dogs in a taxi聽– It is unlikely that anyone will attempt to transport a rabid dog in a taxi. But the rule exists even today. It is obvious that the lawmakers were thinking about the safety of taxi drivers. Another related law is that drivers should ask passengers if they are suffering from diseases such as plague or smallpox.

Monarch’s stamp upside down is treason聽– There is a rule under the Treason Felony Act of 1848 that treats improper pasting of the monarch’s postage stamp as treason. For example, you cannot paste it upside down. Similarly, it is an offence to deface any of the majesty’s coin or currency. However, these rules are no longer followed and are largely treated as a myth.

Cows banned on streets聽– As per the Metropolitan Streets Act of 1867, it is illegal to herd cattle on the streets during day time. This rule applies from 10 AM to 7 PM. For unavoidable circumstances, one will need permission from the Police Commissioner.

No armor inside parliament聽– Framed in 1313, the statute disallowing wearing body armor is still in effect today. As per the statute, Members of Parliament are not allowed to wear full body armor inside the Houses of Parliament. This rule was made following the fight that had occurred between two groups of the parliament.

Cannot shake your rug in public聽– As per the Metropolitan Police Act 1839, Section 60, it is illegal to beat or shake rugs, carpets or mats in the streets. An exception was made only for doormats.

King presented the whale’s head聽– As per this rule drafted in 1322, the finders of beached whales or sturgeons should follow the mandated protocol. The king should be given the head and spermaceti of the whale. Everything else will be the property of the finder.

No drinking while herding cattle聽– As per section 12 of the Licensing Act 1872, it is illegal to get drunk while managing cattle. This also applies to drinking while managing horses, operating steam engines, carriages, etc.

A common pet cannot mate with a royal pet聽– It was forbidden for the common people’s pets to be mated with pets kept at the royal household. Anyone found disobeying this law was likely to face the death penalty. Thankfully, this rule was abolished in 1965.

Thousands of UFO sightings are reported in the United States every year. Florida – The second US state with the most UFO sightings is Florida. Total number of UFO sightings in Florida till date are more than 8,000. One of the most talked about UFO sightings was the Gulf Breeze UFO incident. These sightings were reported between late 1987 to early 1988. The reports were first published in the Gulf Breeze Sentinel newspaper. The topic was intensely debated, with supporters on both sides.

Washington – The state of Washington comes third in terms of UFO sightings. Total number of reported UFO cases in Washington is currently more than 7,000. Some very sensational UFO sightings have been reported from Washington. One of the earliest was the Maury Island incident in 1947. This was one of the earliest reported UFO sightings in the state. Another widely publicized UFO case in Washington was the Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting in 1947. This too occurred on Maury Island.

Texas – At number four in UFO sightings is Texas. Close to 6,000 UFO incidents have been reported in Texas till date. One of the earliest reported cases was the Lubbock Lights in 1951. This was a V-shaped formation of lights noticed in the sky in the town of Lubbock, Texas. Another major UFO sighting in Texas was the Cash-Landrum incident in 1980. Eye witnesses had claimed that their health deteriorated after the incident. The matter was even pursued in a civil court.

New York – This is the fifth US state in terms of total number of UFO incidents. The number of reported cases till date is more than 5,700. One of the most talked about UFO incidents was the one reported by leading musician John Lennon. According to John and their assistant, they had seen a craft with changing lights when they were at their Manhattan penthouse. A reference to this incident was later included in John’s song “Nobody Told Me”.

Bribing prison staff聽– If you have access to funds, you can probably try to bribe your way out of the prison. Of course, getting money inside the prison may be difficult. But you can always ask someone on the outside to transfer the money. This will probably be the safest way to get out, without creating a major scene at the prison.

Exploiting weaknesses聽– Even the most secure prison facilities may have weaknesses. You just need to have patience and try to identify those weaknesses. You can identify guards that often sleep on duty, a fissure in the prison wall that can be broken through, ventilation ducts, rusted window bars, etc. These are just a few examples. There can be various other vulnerabilities present in the prison system. You can accordingly plan your prison escape.

Forged release documents聽– There have been quite a few cases where prisoners have walked out of jail by submitting forged release documents. You will probably need someone on the outside to get such documents prepared. It can be achieved by exploiting the corruption in the system, for example, paying money to get the official letterhead, signature copies, seals, etc.

Brute force聽– If you are in a group, or if there are a limited number of guards at any given point of time, you can attempt to overpower them. However, this method to escape prison can be risky. If the escape fails, you can be treated very badly in an enemy country. Moreover, your chances of succeeding in the next attempt will be reduced, as security around you will be tightened.

Tunneling to escape聽– This primitive technique can still work, provided it is executed in a planned manner. You can also combine it with corruption, wherein you can bribe the jail staff to look the other way. Depending on the type of jail, it can take several months to dig your way out of the prison.

Escape from outside聽– Prisoners are often taken outside to work on roads, railways, mines, etc. You can study the possibilities and accordingly plan your escape. You can also pretend to be sick, in which case you could be taken to a healthcare facility located outside the prison. With some outside help, you can plan your escape.
