In a striking move in the fight against climate change, St Kitts and Nevis has partnered with the Republic of China (Taiwan) to create a climate-smart hospital. This move is a win for Small Island Developing States (SIDs) globally.

The climate-smart hospital also underscores St Kitts and Nevis����ֱ�� fundamentally important role as innovators and changemakers in the region. Taiwan chose to collaborate with the Federation in its pursuit of strategic bilateral partnerships that benefit the lives of citizens.

Deepening climate-conscious collaborations

The collaboration between St Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan indicates that both parties are committed to ensuring the premium standard of healthcare, incorporating cross-cutting new technologies to ensure the hospital����ֱ�� green credentials.

Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew signed an Offer and Acceptance Document, as did the President of the Overseas Engineering and Construction Company (OECC), Mr. Hsiao Yun Yeh.

Prime Minister Dr. Drew emphasises climate-friendly healthcare

In a statement to the St Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, Prime Minister Dr. Drew reiterated the Federation����ֱ�� commitment to protecting the citizenry from rising temperatures and natural disasters.

He also maintained that the health sector is the most important in any economy. This is particularly true in vulnerable Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like St Kitts and Nevis.

He explained further, ‘If there����ֱ�� one institution that should be standing after any significant natural disaster it should be and must be a hospital.’
